Could I have wrong new key switch

Post by Artie »

On my current resto project I purchased new aftermarket ignition switch now when key is on neutral light and all else functions but no taillight or oil pressure light (bulb is good) and voltage to the sending unit as well
removed wire to sending unit and still no light but if I turn key to park position taillight does work and engine will crank but OP light
It should not crank in park position and tells me that it’s not an open circuit in taillight wire
Could this be a switch issue
Ideas? TIA

Is it a ProLink switch (6 pins and an ACC position)? If so they are wired slightly different than a twin shock switch.

Suspicion confirmed I got a 6 blade 1981-2 ignition switch installed in a 1979 harness that is I’m 99.99% sure the reason for my issues
I’m also 100% sure of the identity of the dope who ordered the wrong switch and installed it
Working to get correct switch and start this bike after an 11 year nap

You can use the ProLink switch if you change the position of the wires in the harness connector to match the pin out shown in the post I linked to.
