Well folks

I took apart the carbs today and have them all separated into containers. I will put them into the ultrasonic over the next few days.

I tend to do each carb alone that way I keep all the carb parts in the original carb

One mixture screw tip broke off in the carb and I am hoping with a little cleaning and some air I can blow it out of its stuck position

I will definitely look into the parts you all recommend

It will be a while but I have new tires on the way so while I am waiting I can do the tire swap and clean out the girls and put new seals on them

Might as well do it once like you all say.

Anyone have a lead on a mixture screw. When I disassembled the carbs one of the tips had broken off. (Not my doing) I am hoping that after it goes in the warm ultrasonic cleaner and with a little air I will be able to blow it out.

If I can't get an original keihin one what aftermarket one do you recommend

I have lots of the screws if you still need one. You'll have the best luck taking a dental tool and pushing out the tip from inside the carb throat.

Some advice - remove the throttle cable bracket and idle adjuster from #4. You'll have better luck cleaning. Also, don't agonize over which parts go in which carb. They are all the same and will work fine however you match them up upon reassembly.

Did the joint rubbers fall apart when you separated the two halves? You must replace them. They are critical for proper sync.

As Nils asked - did you get the pressed-in jets out yet?

Thanks to all who have helped me out.

I went onto the Randakk site and ordered the set that includes all the gaskets and o rings

I called my local Honda Shop and the guys there are useless. They have no idea how to look up parts and are always quick to say I will check with our aftermarket parts book.

No more to be said. I just paid the price for the kit.

Hopefully with the most expensive shipping choice itvwill arrive sometime soon. Once you are out of the USA the difference between medium shipping cost and expedited is only $5 more do I chose the quickest method

The last set of carbs are in the ultrasonic now

The one with the broken mixture needle has cleared itself and all is good again.

I did order a new mixture screw from Randakk but I am still hoping to obtain a genuine mixture screw to put in as I hear they are the best

PS. Anyone ever try using some crazy glue on the vent T rubber

Mine is starting to split a bit and they were out of stock at Randakk

Sorry. I have not removed the presses in jets yet but the tip of the mixture screw just fell out nicely once it was in the ultrasonic cleaner

Also. How do you guys remove the presses in jets without damaging them

As for the rubbers that go on the fuel tubes. Some were soft and some broke so I ordered a complete set from Randakks as suggested before to me.

Personally I would not try it, think you will be pulling the carbs again to replace, once the rest of it starts falling to pieces, Heat and age get these rubber parts, and yours have already aged ! they are not critical, just to vent carbs and keep water from finding a way in but I like to use them.
Try contacting Mike Nixon at https://motorcycleproject.com/ he makes one that will out last the original style. although if wanting original style then hopefully someone has some, I looked in my carb parts stash and I used the last set I had on my recent rebuild.

+1 on pulling the idle jets.
Spend the shekels, do it once and do it right and you will be rewarded with many years of very faithful service.

Clearly, from the presentation of your other bikes, you are more than up to the task.

Thanks for the tip on the vent T's at CBX Performance. I just ordered them up

As for pulling the idle jets from what I am seeing you have to tap out the top of the jet and then use an appropriate screw to remove the jet.

Just to make sure what size tap are you using and what size screw.

I do have a nice tap set

However

I just don't want to make an error on such an important part of the carb

After cleaning them properly then comes part of getting them back in place. How are you guys getting them back in proper position

I'll hunt up a screw. Use either 3mm or SAE 4-40 tap and puller screw. You don't have to drill, just tap a few threads. Just tap back in with a brass drift.

Did you get new joint rubbers from Randakk? They do not come in the rebuild kit.

You will have to bench sync the carbs and you will need the tool to do it.
