Stumped on wierd noise, alternator od something else

Hi everybody
So i have my x together finally and she is going well(running in rings atm).
I hear a strange bearing/whirring noise under load , possibly a bit like the cards through spokes that described the alternator problem.
I am also hearing a chirping that was also described on various posts re the alternator.
Noticible on LHS
If i pull the clutch in and rev, let it die down to 1000rpm and release the noise is gone.
Go through a few more rev changes and it re-appears (around 2.5k-3k)
Rinse repeat.
When the engine is cold-NO NOISE
As soon as the oil is warm it re-appears.
WHAT I HAVE DONE:
After reading the posts (thanks everyone) I have shimmed the spring by 3 mm (was on 29mm spring length)
I have replaced BOTH bearings in caseing and under rotor
I did not sand the plates as the scoring didn't seem to bad.
The noise appears less althoug it is still coming and going.
Kinda at a loss as to what else i can do (BTW the bearing i removed looked to be in good nick)
The the Symptoms sound like alternator esp under load
Any suggestions at this stage i will look inot
Thanks
Thor
