Slow Jet Plug

Post by pagan1047 »

I'm working on getting my Moto Martin CBX back on the road where it belongs and having problems with the carbs - blocked slow jets. Can anyone explain how the slow jet works as I don't understand the purpose of the slow jet plugs one of which is badly melted???

Registered in 1984 but I'm pretty sure the engine is from 1978/79, can I check this from the engine number?

Thanks

The idle jet is pressed in, covered with rubber plug because it gets its fuel from another, adjacent jet, the primary main jet. If the plug is missing or deteriorated, the circuit will get too much fuel. The idle jet is cleaned with a stiff wire and a good toluene-based aerosol cleaner. :-)

Thanks, that makes sense. I seem to have finally cleared the bloakage and the carbs are back on and working.
