I guess the bottom line is, you can check the jets by removing #6, but as Bob said, you have no idea what the carbs are really like, what jetting, needles, really anything. They need a complete rebuild with stock parts.

A good indication that they need looked at is the fact that when you got the bike, the airbox was off. Why could that have been?

Remove the alternator and access to the #1 float bowl is about the only one you can get to in sitsu, easily.
Remove the bonnet too, check to see if the slide has the stock needle or something else. The needle should be anodized aluminum with 05F stamped near the top. If not stock, this indicates that the carbs may have been altered internally.

But, what about the exhaust? Stock, aftermarket? That can cause performance issues too.

Yeah, any way you look at it the carbs will have to come off so you might as well
get it over with and know for sure what you have. Do a compression test while the
carbs are off.

You might as well check the valve clearances and tension the cam chains* too while you have easy access.
Do it all and ride with confidence !

*not the FSM procedure.

The DG will give you a mid-range stumble, perhaps not as bad as you are seeing though.

I'll bet the PO attempted to jet for the DG and, since the air box was off,
might have been planning to run pods, got the primary and secondary main
jets switched and/or put a Dynojet stg.3 kit in them. Exploration will tell.

Fired it up yesterday, started and idled perfect.
So naturally i blipped a throttle enough times to annoy anyone in close proximity.
Cooler day, so spent a good 4-5 mins.

Not the correct way i know, but i did check the plugs after, and indeed the plugs are sooty.
Now i was also seeing a little blue smoke, but i do think gor sure that something is off with the carbs.
Since smoke is more so evident now, that the airbox is on, so it might be that the mains are interchanged.

Who knows what else is in there for brass.
Baby sitting my daughter these days, so only get 3 hours per day during the week while she is in pre school.

On a different note, finished a few others and even sold a couple to make some room.
I have another cbx as well, a thread i started a long time ago, i think pretty soon i will start to make progress on both the x’s.
One day, i’ll have em all finished.

Hi

Would anyone be able to post a photo of how the wring connectors sit inside the headlight bucket ?
I have finally got a chance to get started on this bike again.
Finally got the gsxr front end pieces off, and have a reproduction headlight bucket. I would like it to go as factory as i can, without being too ocd

This is not a perfect execution of this, but it’s B+. There’s a great clear diagram in the shop manual.
