Another Challenge

One of the other CBX owners here in Albuquerque called me about this CBX sitting against a house. I rode over and checked it out as much a I could at the time. I contacted the owner but she wasn't able to sell it because it was part of a divorce settlement. It's been near a year and she contacted me today to discuss selling the bike.

So I am going to ponder what to offer. Of course these things happen when I have the least amount of cash flow but I am going to find a way to save this one. If I can get it running all the better but I have no idea of the engine condition. At least it's a NM bike so the only real damaging element was the sun, all the palstics are sun rotted/baked. There is a set of Kerkers that come with it but that's about it.

Start at $1200 so as not to insult her, then go $1500 if you have to - no more. You well know what you are looking at to make it the way you want to. Of course, if she offers it cheaper, jump on it (the bike).

To her, it may just be another old motorcycle. 30+ years old, what could it be worth?? Don't appear too eager. You are taking all the risk. If the engine is toast....

You've had your eye on that one for a long time. I seem to recall you did an evaluation at that time, even though he wouldn't sell.
I'm sure the condition has gone downhill since then.

She will be faced with a lot of work to try to sell it, or just unload it to you now. :confusion-waiting:

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Mike, just so you know there is no cure for the CBX disease.
Good luck with the negotiations.

I agree - $1,200 seems about right for a pig in a poke. All there or not, it's still a ton of work and parts to do what you do.

Is there a 12 step program for this disease?

Yes, there is. But it takes a while to accumulate 12 CBXes :D :D :D

Hey Mike, You of all would know the therapy for the CBX disease. :D

I managed to snag a set of Kerkers today, they have little rash or dents. The chrome could use some elbow grease but otherwise they are solid.

The best set I have ever scored for $250.

Now to decide if I want to have them re-chromed or ceramic coated.

I like chrome but the cost could be the deciding factor.

Are those from the divorce bike, or something else? Are you going to get the divorce bike?

Well the divorce bike is back in litigation so it's on the back burner for now. Just as well since Christmas sapped my account.

I bought this frame some time ago and just got it here to NM. The engine cases and title should arrive tomorrow. This baby is naked, nada with it. Bare frame and bare engine cases but I can go from there as long as the frame number and engine number match the title I'll be a happy camper.

So over the next year I will gather parts to put her back together again. I figure I'll start by building a complete rolling chassis then I'll collect what I need to reassemble the engine. I know it will be big dollars but I figure the SN is low enough to make it worth my while to tackle.

Mike:

Good luck with your parts search - you're needing quite a bit! Let me know if I can help you out.

There shouldn't be an engine number in the title??
