Project CBX Namibia - Planning stages - Advice welcome

So I thought I would put down something in writing here partially for my own purposes but also so that anyone and everyone is welcome to comment and give advice as they see fit. You never know what may be useful or perhaps someone more experienced can help me avoid a mistake.

My plan is to build a custom CBX in a style somewhere between streetfighter and café racer, somewhat inspired by this bike from SP Fight Machines in Germany

Image

Here is a pic of the motor I intend to buy. I am currently communicating with the seller regarding details but it seems the motor was professionally rebuilt from scratch with pretty much all the important stuff being brand new.

The same guy has a frame and possibly a tank for me and I believe that will be all the CBX parts I will need (for now at least).

The plan roughly is to then add:
Honda CBR or similar front forks etc
Ducati 916 swingarm and rear suspension
Ducati Sport Classic seat and rear cowl

Look forward to hearing from you

Welcome to the site.
Builds like yours are way out of my mechanical abilities but i think the search feature will show how-to most of those upgrades.

Namibia? That's just too cool.
Welcome to the forum!
I just want to go on record as stating that I prefer unmodified CBXs. :D
I guess I'll just have to follow this build out of curiosity.
Go Dirk

Hi Mikey

Yeah we all have our own tastes hey? I must say I very much like SEEING standard bikes incl CBX's. I have a lot of respect for people who restore and maintain classic/vintage bikes (and other things) but something in my nature just makes me want to own stuff that is different and unique... always... Maybe some of my piglets escaped sometime... I dunno!

Anyway thanks for the comment and the welcome. I look forward to chatting with the bunch of you!

DJ, Mikey is full of beans just there and having fun with you. His bike is WAY custom and kicks ass. Hang on while I go find his thread - it was one of the best of the year. That is is the guy you want engaged in your project, along with J.R.(CBXtras) and a few others that have modified Prolinks (Jeff Bennetts and Steve Murdoch in particular).

Aris' threads from 2010-2011 were probably the best recent thread for a more faithful restoration:

search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&auth ... &start=255

Welcome. We would love to help you with your project.

N.

Thanks Nils and WOW! Great thread Mikey. I'm sure I will read through that more than a few times during my own build.

Now if I can just wipe all this drool off my face...

I'm only half joking - but your best move would be to move to the US for a year. Your project would be a lot easier and cheaper to do.
