New seat for my '81 by Saddlemen

Just got a new seat, made by Saddlemen (Rancho Dominguez, CA) using a spare seat pan. They use two types of foam and gel, plus a relief trough for the "sensitive areas." The reduced pressure in that area, plus the flow-through ventilation in the trough, make for a comfortable ride. I had them make it flat because I don't like stepped seats.

They used red stitching to match the bike's pinstripes and also re-covered the backrest pad to match the seat.

In the full-bike picture you can see the Laminar Lip accessory on the windshield - greatly reduces buffeting.

I appreciate this bike more every day!

Ride safely,
Ken

Welcome to the site, Ken.
Interesting seat. Have you racked up many miles on it yet?

Thanks, Steve. I've done about 600 miles with the new seat. The closed-cell foam is stiffer than stock, so it's not as comfortable on the thighs as the stock seat, but I'm getting used to it.

Hi Ken, Interesting seat! How do you like the laminar lip? Which one did you get? Did it fit without modification?

Thank you,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Laminar Lip doesn't have one for the Rifle fairing I have, but they looked at it and gave me something for the Yamaha GTS (I'm not 100% sure of that since it's been 4 years), and it fit well with no modification. I put a few Velcro pads on each side of the windshield so I could try different positions of the Lip.

It definitely helps by directing the air higher so it'll go over your helmet.

Ken
