THE TRAVESTY:

Post by CopperCollar »

Finally got the carbs in and the bike almost ready for crank up. Still need a few little things but I have those on order....like a battery, 6mm flange nuts for the exhaust collars, misc washers and bolts. Still looking for a 422 headlight bucket, two pesky chrome bolts that hang the head to the frame brackets near the carbs and one of the front engine hanger bolts that mount to the frame.

Here is what she currently looks like:

Magnificent. What a journey.

GREAT job Mike. You have had a lot of obstacles along the way. I will breathe a little easier when you spark it up, but I imagine it will purr.

Looking fantastic! I'll look for the bolts you need. I have the front hanger bolt for sure, maybe the rear two also.

What's better than ONE impeccably clean, excellently turned-out CBX ?

Wow, great shots, they look better than new.
I've got the bolts you need ( they are a little rusty), pm me an address & I'll get them off if you want .

Thanks Much guys.

Today I bought a battery . Charged it up and installed it. Then I had to trace down a few electrical glitches.

She cranks over beautifully, spark to all plugs. Tomorrow I have safety meetings and staff meetings so I won't be able to fire her up until thurs at the earliest.

I took one more shot of her today.

I want to thank every one that has made this possible. The site is just a great source of information as was CBX World. :text-thankyouyellow:

Mike
Glad to see in your other thread she is running as good as she looks. Now your problem is which one to ride Sunday morning. They both look like new.
It's been great watching you bring the Travisty back from the dead. Thanks for sharing and documenting progress. I learned a lot from your posts.

Finally getting off my ass and working on the Travesty again. Lifes issues have ruled of late.

I got the big bore kit and Preston punched out the cylinders. He had to replace #1 liner as he found a crack. Number one was the cylinder with the locked up rod.

While the Travesty ran good it never ran right as a CBX should. The cracked liner could explain this.

The big bore kit should do the trick. I set the ring end gaps on the tight side of spec. This should get me to the 140 psi compression mark.

I will shoot for cylinder assembly next week.

Trying to decide how to get the pistons loaded, the old finger method or shim stock and hose clamps. Haven't found a set of Honda ring compressors despite an ebay search. I guess I should try Honda for a set. Has anybody bought a seat off Honda lately, are they even available anymore?

Up date pic of the Travesty.
I put the exhaust system on her that was on the Rocketman's bike. Stock CBX headers with Jardine slipons. It really really sounds nice now.
