Side note, of sorts: When you rebuild the forks, consider $150 USD for Race Tech emulators. They do wonders for ride and handling.

100% this. In my personal bible, it's a sin to take apart any damping rod fork without installing RTCE's. Absolutely the best improvement you can make for the money. Improves comfort, control, handling, and safety, and retains perfect stock looks. IMO the only 2 reasons to not do it are "It's a show bike that will never be ridden" and "I'm just using these forks to roll it around the shop until my AK-20's get here"

To think that oem could have done that for $20 per back then. Added $40 to the sticker. Who would not have been willing to pay that! And, they could have done the rear with a uni-shock cheaper than the air bag. And, had a much better bike!!

JUST did that very thing on the Prolink fork for my Bitsa Bike project.

Can anyone spot what’s different about this Prolink fork? (NOT the silver drain bolts - I’ll fix that)

Also, good tip on the cartridge emulators. I've heard of them before but never run them. For that price it's worth doing while everything's apart.

Guess my next big decision is what to do about the rear shock. I remember being surprised this thing held pressure when I pumped it up a couple years back, but who knows if it would work once I started riding it.

No, nothing special. My machinist pal did it in his lathe.

The carbs arrived back from Dave today. They're stunning! He did a beautiful job on them, far better than I could have done myself. These were in pretty rough shape when he got them, I'm shocked they came back looking as nice as they do.

Still haven't had time to drop things off at the powdercoater, I've had some surprise work trips pop up the past couple weeks. Having the carbs done is a huge weight off my shoulders though and gives me some motivation to keep rolling!

And take a cue from Dave, never, ever use a plastic fuel filter, metal only, single use or a replacement filter screw type but never a plastic FF.

Both of my handlebar control switches have cracked housings. I see reproductions on Z1 parts, anyone familiar with them? Are the switches decent quality?

Yes, the reproduction switches are fine.

Plodding right along. The cartridge emulators showed up the other day, they're very cool looking. My setup sheet specs that machining is required, but they fit perfectly into the damper rods so I don't really understand why I'd need to have them machined. I'll give Race Tech a call and clarify sometime soon.

Guess I do have to drill additional holes in the damper rods, but that should be a fairly easy job.

Still no word from the powdercoat shop.

No machining required on the Pro-Link. Just drilling more holes.
