Re: 79 CBX - We'll see where this goes...
I'm posting in here so I get notifications - gotta get my CBX fix vicariously for the next little bit. :)
It's a bit amazing to me to see the before & after pics in these kinds of threads. Great work on the carbs, I'm looking forward to seeing this machine really sorted out.

Re: 79 CBX - We'll see where this goes...
Having a bit of trouble with idle.
The bike starts right up cold w/ choke, and will idle and rev fine.
After 10-15 minutes driving around the city it will start to stall at stops. It fires back up but I have to give it some throttle at stops to keep it running.
Left it sit idling in my garage, after 15 - 20 minutes of idling the rpm will start to drop to where it wants to stall. I adjusted the idle while it was hot but it seems to drop a bit the longer it idles.
I'm not sure where to look next. Carbs should be good since it idles cold/warm? I searched around for an intake leak but couldn't find one. Suggestions would be appreciated?

First - carbs are not good. Sounds like a sync problem but don’t rule out plugged idle circuits. Second, I hope you had a couple of fans blowing on the engine while idling 10 or 15 minutes. You’ll cook it if you didn’t.

I started on the carb sync tonight. 4 and 5 were very close, 6 was within an inch (H20 ?) but when I adjusted it the amount of engine rattle definitely changed. Probably should have done a running sync earlier.
Hoping to get through the rest this weekend.

Vacuum carb sync is done. I used a motion pro unit with newer fluid I think it's water / glycol. the vacuum was within an inch or two to start with, I got them all within 1/4 to 1/2 inch differential. It took away some of the engine rattle noise.
Took it for a slow ride on city streets, ran perfect going out I was testing the idle as I went. After about 10 minutes the rpm would drop at a stop but not as bad as before. I adjusted the idle rpm and it ran fine the way back. I'll get a few more rides in to test it out.
New carb insulator boots are on my shopping list, I'll clean out the carb circuits again when I do an engine tilt.
Dave - thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I had the bodywork painted over the winter turned out nice.
Also found a good used set of Delkevic 6-2. The original pipes were a bit rusted in places. I haven't put them on yet, waiting for warm weather!

Very nice, Keith.
Maybe it is just a reflection but what is the wire/cable to the left of the tach running down to the handlebars?

Clutch or choke cable? I took the pic while I was reassembling there may have been a few loose ends.steve murdoch icoa #5322 wrote:Very nice, Keith.

I zoomed in on the photo.
Top one is the clutch cable and the lower one is the choke.

Dave - yes but I found you can get a kit from David Silver, I'll get around to it eventually
