Too many choices.....
I've been considering different options for my GS1150 project, cafe, brat, tracker? I'd like a 60's cafe for a big single or twin but I already did that already back in the late 70's. I need something upright, Cafe riding position would kill my old back now and a 4 pot doesn't fit the 60's cafe style imo. Same again for a Tracker (4 pot tracker ?) so Brat style is what I'm leaning towards. http://www.bikebound.com/2015/07/13/wha ... efinition/

your big single has no limitations, adventure, cafe, tracker, brat, bobber whatever you want...
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

If I had a 84/86 GS1150, I would throw on a GSXR 1100 front and rear end, and leave the upright GS handlebars.
GSXR suspension literally bolts directly up to these bikes. Or stretch it, and turn it into a retro drag bike.
The 1150 is a bulletproof engine without question, Im pretty partial to suzuki's though

the tech who is helping me rebuild it is a suspension expert, he says the existing forks can be easily improved so I'm okay there.

so the GSXR swingarm a straight swap?

I was never into drag bikes so I never knew it was a drag race favorite until I acquired it...I've had two offers of 2K for it and it wasn't even running, both offers were from guys who drag race...my brother was the original owner he liked to race it he had some 1/4 mile times of low 11's 120ish

If you swap the entire front end, then you can run modern 120x70x17 front tires, have much better 4 piston calipers, and a set of USD forks (91 and newer for GSXR's sold in the states)
A 17X5.5 rear wheel will fit in the 1150 swing arm....not sure if a 86-88 swing arm would be a direct fit, but the 89 up might need a few changes to fit.
The pics i have on the first page show what the set up looks like....it's what I have on my CBX now.

As an example here is my GS1000 with 86 GSXR1100 front and rear ends (testing different ideas, of the direction I wanted to go)....direct bolt in...
These wheels are first gen. 18 inchers...89 up are 17
IMG_5972.JPG
And heres with wire wheels....
These are also 18 front and back...with stock fork...
wire wheel test (13).JPG
The possibilities are endless for sure

eeeeew so many toys! :o ...I feel so meager now :(

I only have three in my stable, I face the wrath of the mrs :x if bring home any more and I need to sell my 440 Maico to pay for the GS rebuild....I'd love to have your Katana very collectible! my brother had one until he traded it in for the GS that I have now...

my first priority is it get the GS fired up, then progress to the suspension ...i'll consult my suspension expert as to whether the GSXR swingarm will be a simple swap to my '84, his motorcycle knowledge is near encyclopedic...if it isn't he'll make it fit.
And heres with wire wheels....

I've been considering wire wheels as well, it's a nice retro feature...

good to know there are now two GS experts I can consult here! :D

This is where it ends....
After I get it broke in and put on a dyno, to see where it is or isn't running right, I'll post it up
Probably a few months at least..... :handgestures-fingerscrossed:

If i had something that nice i would be putting it in the back of the truck and heading south. Bike looks great.
Not surprising but even the Supertrapp looks custom. I have only seen the mufflers with the discs. Is yours stock?

I can answer that.
A stock SuperTrapp comes with 13 disc's per muffler, you then tune the back pressure and noise level by adding or subtracting disc's. I have 10 dis's per side on my X.
no disc's = almost no baffle
So his X running with no disc's will be very LOUD!!!

This is a bit loud when it gets much above idle.... But sounds awesome when on a dyno at a outdoor Harley gathering...!!!
After a run I did many years ago, I had about 100 new friends and CBX believers 8)
image.jpg
The baffles are exactly like almost all other kerker/Vance Hines/and so on baffles
Only difference is supertrapp covered the holes up with shiny covers...

With baffles in, sounds no different than my GS 1000 or FZR 1000 with Kerkers...

If you like the sound of naturally aspirated F1 engines, you'll like the full open sound... :D

You can't see the insane smile of happiness under the helmet.... But it is there :D
About 40 degrees, but I couldn't wait any longer...
I had to know how it ran....
I took it easy for a few miles.... But I had to pull through the gears at least once...
Carbs felt great all the way through and pulled like a freight train as smooth as silk...

Now to get my GS1000 done and finish up a few details on the SR500, and spring should be here :laughing-rollingyellow:

I think we have all been there and know all about that grin. Congrats!
The 17" wheels obviously change the perspective but the bike seems small. Just curious, how tall are you?

Just a bit past 6 feet tall...Big helmet though...
The bike sits a bit lower in front to speed up steering, and the swing arm is stock length (pretty short)...so it does look small compared to a stock bike.
I sit my Aprilia RS250 beside it and they look almost the same size... :DD
