I am very interested in hearing this bike and knowing more on those DG mufflers.

Well, there’s this short vid with a bit of sound. If you care to, you can see more on my YouTube channel as well.

The pipe is a regular old DG unit with a resonator in it that came from a Yoshimura muffler intended for GSXR 1000s. The resonator is the same length as the DG bit, but MUCH less restrictive (look at the bottom of this page for pix).

With as much as Mike rides, you two are not that far apart. I really want to encourage you to get together for an epic meet & greet of 2 of the best CBX specials...

...but I don't want you doing it without me. :laughing-rolling:

I read through 100% of this spectacular build and I am really impressed by the smart solutions and incredible amount of km mileage
that you put on it. What is today's status of your bike? Any changes or improvements? These bikes tend to be ongoing developments...

RC166, thanks for the kind remarks.
Not my best summer, mileage-wise. Would you believe most weekends it was IMPOSSIBLE (well…almost) to get off the island of Montreal owing to the abysmal road situation!? Currently I’m sitting at 85,000km. that I’ve put under the wheels of the ‘X’. The bike had 35,000km. when I got it so I’m starting to get some big numbers up on the odometer.
Not much to report since the last overhaul. Messed around trying to clean up my wiring last winter. Replaced a shim or two on the valves, checked the synch on the carbs, that sort of thing.
Oh and THIS happened last summer. I had been in full ‘hero’ mode returning home from the twisty roads up north when a good hour from home something didn’t feel right. I had been noticing weird noises from the front end of late but could find nothing out of the ordinary. I soldiered on and made it home easily enough. But…jacking the front wheel up to wash the bike off I detected an ‘issue’ with the wheel. Popped it off and this is what greeted me!

Image

The bearing on the LH had failed absolutely! Can’t believe I hadn’t found it earlier and that I got home safely. It was one of the bearings originally supplied with the Marchesinis I’m running. Took the bearings from the GSXR rims I put aside as well as their MUCH better alloy spacers and dropped them into the wheels. Problem solved.

Thanks for asking after any updates. Super impressed with your work, looking forward to any and all of your future posts.
Cheers, Mike C.

The night after seeing that, I would have been awake in a cold sweat imagining all of the worst possible times of my last ride for the front wheel to suddenly seize.

I'm really glad you just got a scare and no scars out of that deal!

Definitely an Oh my God moment. Still can’t believe my dumb luck got me home again.
But then, that’s a number of times now the wounded CBX brought me home 😎
