This is a 3 part engine esthetic question
1982 CBX with black painted engine
Has anyone tried to remove the black engine paint and repaint the engine silver/aluminum like the earlier 79/80 models?
How is it done?
On the valve cover of the same 82 CBX engine, does it have a lacquer coating?
I kind of noticing a bit yellowish here and there on the cover or is it my eyes?
I want to polish it with a buffer to a chrome shine.
The carbs vacuum dome/cover
Since I want to buff them all (6), can they be interchanged/mixed?
I am concerned should the clearance be too tight then the vacuum piston may stick in its bore during operation.
Then if the clearance is tight, I will have no choice but to buff one at a time.
Thanks in advance Gents

Use paint stripper to take paint off engine. Yes, there is a clearcoat on the valve cover. Same stripper to remove that. No difference in carb tops/piston relationship. You can mix-and-match.

I always thought, you should keep the carb tops and pistons together and not mix them. Don't know where I read that. Maybe in Mike Nixon's carb booklet?daves79x wrote: . No difference in carb tops/piston relationship. You can mix-and-match.

One precaution to consider if you're using a buffing wheel, do not let the carb top slip out of your hand and shoot across your shop, the carb slides don't work too good in an oval carb top.
