Kawasaki Z900 new Retro

Post by Duffey Lake rd. »

Brings back memories, a tastefully done retro by Kawasaki
It looks a lot like the original 70s bike, with lots of accessories like 4-into-4 pipes, a grab bar, and chrome fenders.

I bought an ‘18 a few months after selling my 79. Got the root beer and orange version. Very similar speeds and response. Low 11s in the quarter and about a 140 mph top speed. Very smooth and flickable. Except for a mono shock, TC, FI, ABS, a radiator, 4 into 1 exhaust, dual front rotors, a 6 speed trany….it’s just like the original Z1! I’ve been thru 8 states with it so far, most memorable was Glacier NP, the giant redwoods in NorCal, every Sierra mountain pass and Monument Valley. Have just over 25,000 Smiles so far.

They nailed it with this bike. Captured the essence of the original and gave it modern stonk.

Somewhere I have a photo taken at the Distinguished Gentlemans Ride, with a pristine 73 I had just restored next to one of these, and I can't say which one I desired more.

Approximately $2100.00 for that lovely Delkevic 4-4 exhaust system.

I agree 100% with you guys, Kawasaki really nailed it with theses modern Z’s. They have a history of getting the retros right, I still have my 99 ZRX I bought new.
