Turbo CBX - page 2 |
American Turbo-Pak does not suggest their
CBX kits be applied to street Hondas; the noise level is higher than
standard, and the turbocharged units have not been emissions-certified by the
Environmental Protection Agency. Since most individuals aren't
constantly under a glaring governmental eye we presume some
turbocharged sixes will find their way onto the street anyway.
Here's exactly what the ATP CBX kit contains: a modified Rajay turbocharger; hand-built inlet and exhaust plumbing and an adjustable exhaust waste gate (which governs intake manifold boost); a 38mm Bendix butterfly-throttle, accelerator-pump carburetor; an electric fuel pump, a boost gauge and instructions. The cost? $1495. Add to this the recommended ATP components not included in the basic kit: Carillo connecting rods ($750 per set) and heavy-duty clutch springs ($18).
For $2263, CBX not included, you can build a motorcycle capable of burying all except other one-liter turbocharged Superbikes. That's where riding talent comes in: you operate the shovel. ![]() Workhorse of the turbo kit is actually an exhaust-gas-driven compressor that pumps fuel mix to the cylinders. |
![]() Except for the slightly ponderous tailpipe, each ATP intake and exhaust member is compact and thoughtfully located. |
