79 CBX original tires

Post by stevenmelching »

Hello. Newbie question here. Didn't find a thread specific running so thought I would start a new one. Anyone have a source to find new front and rear tires as close to the original size and tread as possible?
Thanks
Steve

Don't know about the tires but I have a canister of NOS Honda air to fill your tires with when you find them, for sale.

Couldn't help myself, consider it your newbie initiation! :teasing-poke:

Don't know of a tire of similar appearance.
I am still using BT45s.

Gee whiz Jeff, i figured you would have swapped to helium by now.
Weight savings alone is worth a couple tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Don't know about finding original tread pattern. However, proper sizes can be found. Have you tried Coker Tires?

Shinko Tourmaster 230 tires from EDIT: rockymountainatv.com are what I have been using. Excellent tires.

Ditto on that one, Nils. I have, likewise, found those to be a good ride.

Steve - even if there were vintage knock-offs of the original tires, and maybe there is, I would go with something more modern, like has been suggested. For a 100 point restoration that is going to spend it's life in a living room or museum, maybe, but for a rider, get a modern tire.

Contacted ridersdomain. Got kind of a curt answer from them, said that they could not help me. Thought WTH?

May I ask what question(s) you asked them that resulted in curt answers? Shinko tires are available just about everywhere if you didn't like their bedside manner. And there are several other tire options you can choose.

My apologies, I made a mistake, it was RockyMountain ATV where I have been sourcing these. Will edit that post. Note that this total is for TWO sets of tires for a twin-shock CBX. 4 tires, $286, to your door.

Outstanding value.
