CBX parts bike value?

Post by Mouse »

A couple of days ago Wyly texted me a photo of a seized engine 79 CBX that's sitting at a repair shop . The bike looks complete and possibly has the sport kit bars etc on it. Asking price $1000 CDN. There are a few parts on it I would like but I'm hestitant, and that got me wondering.
So the question for the group is , what is a " for parts only", CBX worth?

Much depends on the overall condition of the bike and if it is all there.
If it is all there and not rotted out, buy it !!
Thanks,
Phil

Like Phil says, the overall condition is so important.
What exhaust? Is there a title?
Parting a bike out for profit can be VERY time consuming and a lot of work.

On the other hand.....you can probably easily get $150 USD. for a complete '79 headlight in good condition.

Or perhaps $400.00 :-)

You are correct, Phil.
That should have read "complete headlight bucket".
I saw a recent E-bay auction where a bucket missing a small piece from the back sold for $100.00.

A complete used sport kit is $750-$1000 depending on condition.

it's still for sale at a $1k, if it doesn't sell as is they're going to part it out...that's when I'll step up, last time they did that I was told I could have whatever parts I wanted for $300...$300 for a complete 79 sport kit with controls, I'll take it ! ...clean them up and sell it on asap...

I'll take the valve cover and an exhaust cam too for myself...

 yeah that might happen yet...I'll wait a bit and see if the part it out and then make them an offer for the whole thing.

I've dealt with them before and still kick myself for not taking an entire bike, I got the dual pot brakes and wheels for $300 but neglected to take the 39mm forks and triples and short bars

then there was the "running" cbx they offered me $2K...it was in rough shape but in hindsight well worthwhile...

The sport kit and cam chain guides will pay for the entire bike :-)

Buy it all... You then have extra parts to save some other bikes. Price is right.

It doesn't have cbx gauge cluster, headlight...missing tail cowl, tail light, mirrors, tank, seat and carb number 1 is beyond repair...all the easy resale items...if it was complete it would already be parked in my garage...so I hesitate...

I'll go have a closer look at the sport kit and controls today those alone could pay for the rest...

if it was available when I was looking for a new cylinder head I would've bought it then....combined with the sport kit and a few other parts I could have made a quick cash turn around and supplied all the parts for my rebuild... well maybe not the connecting B-rod, hard to justify buying an entire bike gambling it has a B-rod inside......
