Engine Tachometer i think broken on cyl head

Post by ahlenius1 »

Wow when taking things apart in preparation for engine paint ,when removing the tach cable from the engine i noticed it was connected to ablosultly nothing i stuck my finger in the hole and it feels like there is nothing there for the cable to attach to. i am a little concerned because if this part is broken it means a new Cylinder Head correct? oh man i hope not$$$$$.....anybody

The cam holder with the tach drive was the only one that Honda eventually offered as a replacement part. So, if it is broken, it could be replaced. Just be careful and thorough and use plastigauge to check for fit.

I think he was talking about not having a tach gear and not the #6 cam cap holder.

It occurs to me that you should actually remove the valve cover to see exactly what's what. I'm guessing there's a reason the tach drive gear is missing. One could be that the holder is broken, from someone trying to remove the valve cover without removing the tach drive first. That's why Honda offered them separately. You really need a shop manual if you don't have one. When taking things apart, follow the procedure in the manual exactly - it's a pretty reliable manual.
