Does the World Need another Supercharged CBX?
My answer is yes!
A few years ago I bought a nice Honda GL1000 from my pal Mike Barone. I deemed it a fitting platform for some "improvements" I had in mine.
It turned out pretty well I think:
The supercharged GL1000 bike has been such a joy to own that I decided to do something similar with a CBX. That project is well underway thanks to the help of J.R. Luksik among others.

Brief run alright...too brief! Sound great! Wonder what a supercharger would do for my Hayabusa?
It ain't the destination, its the journey...

Yep. Brief, but there'a a reason.
The clip shows 20- 90mph (+/-) in that time shown.
All-out drag launches with elevated rpms and an abrupt clutch "dump" are pretty exciting. It's not too wheelie prone due to my weight, so that part is easy to control, but the rear tire has a strong tendency to break loose and that will grab your attention.
But, since I have to fix everything that breaks around here, I avoid too much of that activity as it is pretty hard on the equipment. I'm not interested in breaking it to determine the absolute quarter mile time potential. Ditto for dyno runs. Maybe if I only weighed 105 pounds like magazine testers :)
I had planned a slightly longer run for this video, but I eased off the throttle in third. Why? 2 seconds after the clip ends I get to exercise my new brakes big time as a car on the shoulder of the causeway (not there on the outbound scouting pass) decided to move (you can't see him through the screen due to low camera angle).
Sharp eyes (on the tach and boost gauge) will notice that my shifts were very careful and rather pokey. Unlike Octane's video, I am always very careful not to blow past redline. That takes LOTS of concentration as it will rev quickly to the peg. I have a rev limiter planned.
Also, due to the low camera angle, super wide angle lens and parallax error, The gauge readings are a bit distorted. For example, viewed normally - max boost reads 8 psi at redline (the yellow limit line is set at 9 psi). In the video it looks like the max boost is a bit lower than that value. Again, that a distortion introduced by the camera.
Anyway, the main point of this video was to let folks experience the sound of the blower. I never get tired of it.

Your ebay ad states there are two days left on the auction.
It ain't the destination, its the journey...
Re: Does the World Need another Supercharged CBX?
I had initially posted that my Wing had sold (for all practical purposes), but that sounded too wordy, so I chopped it down. It's also for sale locally and I'm waiting on a money transfer. You have up until 12 hours prior to the auction's end to pull it.

That whine is sublime. And holy crap that seems to accelerate quickly. I'd be mighty tempted to go squid hunting with it.Randakk wrote:My answer is yes!

Awesome piece of work Randall! The thought of that on a CBX is...extreme. Can't wait.

My Supercharged CBX (3 years in the making) is finished and on the road.
I'm going to unveil it on May 12th at this event:
6th Annual Carolina Classic Motorcycle Show
This event will be held at the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina
Details here: http://www.randakks.com/Randakk's%20Cus ... 0Rally.htm
(I won't post any substantive new pix or other details until after the event.)
I hope to see some of you there.

That would probably lead to a "crew-cut" :)steve murdoch icoa #5322 wrote:You sir, are a Tease.

Here's a couple of "teaser" pix that will have to suffice until after the show:
I hope to see some of you at the Spencer show.

Re: Does the World Need another Supercharged CBX?
I've fielded many private messages about the eventual availability of supercharger "kits."
Here's the answer.
I applied what I've learned from my own prior efforts, borrowing heavily from many experts along the way as I designed this. Mark Fageol, in particular, has kept me out of trouble on many occasions. Mark owns Fageol Superchargers (a great guy who is "into" bikes.)
Meanwhile, J.R. Luksik of CBXtras managed the execution of about 75% of the custom fabrication on this project via his excellent resources and my drawings. I did the rest of the fab myself.
My hope is that J.R. might eventually be convinced to offer "kits" based on this design.
That way, he could take all the business and financial risks - while I bask in the glory. :)

OK. One more picture and this is it until after the show on May 12th.steve murdoch icoa #5322 wrote:You sir, are a Tease.

That's a sketch of the belt guard which turned out to be quite a challenge on this project. It's also pretty revealing if your forensic skills are good.
That sketch and my mock-up will soon be on the way to J.R. Luksik who will transform it into a beautiful piece of industrial art.
The guard won't be ready for the show on the 12th. For now, my "guard" is a pair of leather pants and some serious concentration to make sure a trip to the ER is not necessary. The naked belts on this bike are pretty impressive!

Re: Does the World Need another Supercharged CBX?
I promised more pix after the bike show.
Here's the show placard:
Here's the trophy (First Place in the hotly-contested Japanese 500+cc category.)
The trophies at this particular show are one-of-a-kind, hand made "gear-head" art...truly unique.
I don't enter many bike shows and I don't like competing against customers. However, there were no other CBXs entered so I felt OK about it this time.
You should have been there.

Congratulations Randall, can't wait to see the bike in the flesh.
