6 into 1: here we go again – now what’s this thing?

Post by Sleepless »

Welp, a week ago I joined the Forum, and posted a topic that immediately got off to a bad start:

"Bassani" is/was an exhaust manufacturer. They also had an exhaust for the CBX. It is one of the rarest of all aftermarket pipes.
Whether this is a Bassani, I can't say. I never saw one.

The only other pipe i remember looking anything like that is a Dicks Cycle West Racer 1 exhaust.
Sorry Sleepless, i could not find a pic of one of them.

Steve M and Don have me convinced already that it is a Bassani - thanks.
(Now, if you know that Kmart made a similar model in the early '80s, be a sport and keep it to yourself. I'm on a roll !)

But, at the risk of getting flamed .... EMS, you HAVE seen this before. Looky here, in Mopar Tony's pic from a cupla weeks ago. That's the pipe, there, hiding at the bottom of jacket pic :yikes:

Sorry !

:D :D No need to be sorry, sleepless! These pipes may be Bassanis, but I dismissed them as a 4 into 1. You can clearly see that only 2 headers go into one collector :!: 8) ..Unless the third header really hides in the way the photo was taken.

Heres a couple pics of the Bassani I reconditioned for Mike, the end cap of the baffle is different on yours, I can't tell from your pic but it looks like yours transitions differently from the collector back to the muffler also .

thanks Jeff. That is one mean look'n bike.

Looking at "real life" vs. your pics, everything looks identical except the end cap, as you noted. What I don't get is why there are 6 small, threaded holes at the end of my baffle, versus when looking at your pic, the end cap is likely held in by the same 2 screws that hold the core in (at the 6 and the 9 o'clock position).

Huh.
And mine doesn't have a gap between the core and the outer pipe for the end cap anyway. Seems like I'm missing an end cap of a diff design. Send the pipe back :!: :!:

As an aside, someday I'll take the grad-level course for loading pics to this forum. Seems like you fellas have it mastered (yes, I printed out the Pix Help, and read it too!)

One of the daughter's, in a moment of corrupt but brilliant thinking just now, asked if, since I wanted to hear a fancy exhaust, could I not just skip the motorcycle part and substitute in the leaf blower.

:woot:

I told her it is too late to wake the neighbors but, jeez, I think we have Toro-Bassani alignment :!: Maybe by tomorrow she forget this idea...

That Toro pix is one of the most creative connection of unrelated things I have ever seen about CBXs in all these years.

Also...You did not get off to a bad start here at all........you asked a q for everyone here ...smart way to procede....and people replied. It saved you from making a mistake....and keep this in mind once.... after you get your CBX going and rides some miles, you will be answering questions here from others. It is the natural progression of things....and a good one for us all.

Finally...you are about 2 hours from my sons in NC...next time I get down there, I will pm you and we can meet up.

Mike
My CBX lives near Harrisburg, Pa USA

Way to go Larry...more time spent by me looking for sound clips.
Got any more?
That Bito sounds nice and it had better for that price.

for Christmas, I recieved a set of Bose noise cancelling headphones. They have a cord to plug into the laptop. What a great way to listen to these clips.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.
