Stock pipes question

Post by Terry »

After removing them from my 79 I saw that the (shields) weren't there and right below the collector pipe at the muffler, there is a stainless steel "patch?" in a 2" diamond shape welded in place. I assume running w/o the shields is ok but what about this patch? It (is) in a place that's likely to accumulate moisture. Suppose it was just a rust spot? The pipes are in great shape and the patch is on the underside and actually looks like a professional job. Better than original?

No, I'm sorry to say, no one even responded after about 170+ (looks). :o Except you. I'm not worried about it, just curious. The (patches) look great and seem to work fine and as for the shields not being there :?: :?: Now if I can get up the gumption to put them back on and stop riding with the 6 into 1 set up (love that sound). 8)

Stock Pipes

Post by ken79 »

I'm sorry I can't shed any light on Terry's question regarding the patch
welding on his stock pipes :( But I had a question regarding the availability
of stock pipes. I have the chance to purchase a very nice to excellent set
of stock pipes for what I think is a good price($ 400). As this is less than
I could buy the Kerker or DG set-up, and I wanted to get the bike closer
to stock, I'd appreciate any opinions. Is this a good deal or not? Right now
the bike has a Winning 6 into 1, which while funtional, is louder than I care
for. Thanks for any input. And while I haven't posted anything beyond
this one question, I been following everything on the website and think it
is great. Later on this summer, when I get my 79 going again, I hope to
be in the thick of things.

$400 for stock pipes

Post by SS »

I believe that if you just look at what pipes are bringing on ebay, you'll be shocked.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 99997&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 08294&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 53097&rd=1

these ebay listings should help you decide that $400 is an outstanding price for even below average condition pipes

and if you don't like them sell them on ebay.

good luck

If you don't want to buy them, tell me where they are. You can't get ONE SIDE in really good condition for $400.00. I suggest, you skip church tomorrow, and go and get them :!: :!:

stock pipes

Post by ken79 »

SS,

Thanks for the links. As I suspected, $400 is quite a deal  . I already told
the guy I wanted the pipes. Even if I don't put them on the bike right
away, I'll hold onto them. As far as the shock of the ebay prices,
I had no idea that they'd gotten that high :!: :!: . My bike has been stuck
in limbo for so long(1996), I got away from the cost of some parts. I had just
resolved to go aftermarket, until these gems appeared. This guy also
has an original seat, still in the box and wrapped in plastic. Any ideas
on the value of that?

Seat

Post by EMS »

Seat is still available from Honda for approx $350 list price. :!: Some say it isn't and want to sell theirs for exorbitant amounts while trying to tell you that the last list from Honda was $500.- Watch out. Considering that you may have or be able to negotiate a discount from your Honda dealer, Anything below $280.00 is a good price 8)
