422 is the Honda code for '79 parts, and 469 is for the parts that are specific to the '80.

But were those the numbers on the OEM pipes?

Honda part numbers that are specific to one model will contain that model's code within. The 79 and 80 bikes did have slightly different exhausts, and so the middle segment of the part number will contain the part code. Example from Partzilla's fiche:

18300-422-003

The middle segment tells you that the part is specific to a 79

Helpful?

N.

P.S. Yes, they were stamped on the pipes.

OK, thanks. I just thought there was some other letter involved in the numbers. Can't remember, sold my pipes when I bought the reproduction ones.

I think it's HM422 and HM469 exactly, but the 422 and 469 are the important part.
