Good morning all…I took delivery of my 1979 (U.S.Model) this week. The fella I bought it off said the previous owner didn't service it and the cam chain jumped ,bending 18 valves ,at 17,000 miles...looking round inside ,it doesn't look as if it caused any other damage
I have the frame number (which agrees with the title)but there’s no engine number stamped on the top of the crankcases..there’s a box for by the clutch cover but it’s blank! There’s nothing behind the barrels either – I have another set of new cases with just 'CB1E' on it…Did Honda send bikes out with no engine number stamp ?
Thanks
Chris

Re: No engine number !!
You have a replacement set of cases from Honda - they came with no number and were supposed to be stamped by the dealer. The bike likely suffered hydrolock back in the day and launched a rod through the original cases.

Why would you need to get the crank checked?
It would make sense that a "good" crank would have gone back into replacement cases.
Or is this just a case of p.o.s.[previous owner syndrome].
