$8000 CBX 1979 Candy Glory Red - 46 000 kms

Post by mac. »

I have come a cross the above and want to know what I should be looking at to buy this bike.

I've drawn up my own list of items to be checked by my brother(I won't be able to view the bike myself). They include:

1. Tail piece intact? These have a tendency to split due to poor design (rubber support below tail piece is too high.)

2. Internal condition of petrol tank, no rust?

3. Carb’s synchronised? (not lumpy when running)

4. Foot peg condition? Front and rear. (badly worn in need of replacement?)

5. Cold start with full choke? (Should operate in this manner)

6. Warm start with half choke? (should operate in this manner)

7. Voltage reading at idle with lights on main beam and with lights off? (looking for more than 13 volts with lights main beams on)

8. Charging system okay? (See above - no chirping)

9. Ignition key system okay? (no evidence of overheating – poor design - runs supply of coils through it)

10. Speedo and Tacho clock condition? (Are they closer to Red or brown?) And are the glass fronts clear and not cloudy (normally the voltmeter)?

11. Display lenses (High beam, Neutral, Oil pressure etc) can you read the white indicator writing?

12. Fuel pet cock operational? (Not sticky, difficult to rotate)

13. VIN and engine No’s (One is on the frame near the yoke and the other is on the right hand side just above and ahead of the clutch housing)

14. Are the carbs sucking, caused by inlet manifold cracks?

15. Engine noise caused by cam chains?

16. Smoking excessively – Rings suspect?

17. Clutch slip?

18. Chain / sprocket conditions? (Are new items required?)

19. Tyre condition?

20. General paint work condition.

21. General chrome condition.

22. Air box cover available (under the seat)?

23. Engine leaks (look below the front sprocket area of the engine)?

24. Condition of front and rear brake master cylinders, including hoses? (difficult to get parts)

25. Anything else you can think of……..

I would appreciate any other items especially when considering the asking price.

Tx's

Ignition - original or electronic? If electronic what type?
Clutch rattle. - normal or excessive?
Engine - original patina or painted? If painted, why?
Mufflers - evidence of rust underneath or inside and evidence of road rash.
Fork seal leaks and fork operation. (Oil leaks or sagged or bent or pitting)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Ít's gone pretty quite on the sellers side and I believe he still wants to hold onto the bike.

I suppose none of us can really blame him.

Cheer
