Mystery (to me) Sidecar Rig

Post by EMS »

I found this picture of a sidecar rig with a CBX motor with no further info. It is NOT Gordon Gooch's unit. This one here has the motor in front of the driver.
Does anybody know anything about it?

With names on it like Fisher and Christie, I would guess that it might have something to do with some of the guys in the UK Club?
Best,
Phil

 Phil, I checked for Fisher Auto and Christie Engineering and it seems to point "down under"

Hmmmm, my error. :sad-roulette:
I should think that if it is down under that either Tony (herdy-gerdy) or Rol will know the rig.
It sure looks nice and is serious business.

Phil

The outfit belongs to my friend Alan Fisher who is an ex Isle of Man TT racer. He is the Northern Rep for the Uk cbx club and lives in Yorkshire. He owns several CBX's including at least two Moto-Martin's and an 82 fitted with modern Triumph bodywork and also a modded 79 fitted with an 82 engine which I sold him some years ago and was pictured in CBXpress before I sold it.Also you can see me riding it here next to my details on this post. I will dig out some images and more info for you. Watch this space.

Mike,

How about this for a CBX racing outfit? As you can see fuel carried in frame. I know next to nothing about it other than was raced on the UK short circuits and I believe they had fuel surge problems which apppears to be likely with that arrangement. I think Alan Fisher might know the former owner so will see if I can more info. Hope of interest?

Mel:

Thank you! Any CBX racing sidecar outfit is of interest to me. Building a performance sidecar rig that would be street legal is all the way on top of my bucket list. Having raced sidecars in the 70s myself, I still have a particular passion for set-ups like this. At this time I own a Louis Christen F1 rig with a Suzuki motor which I imported over from Germany in the hope I could campaign it here in the U.S. Unfortunately that turned out to be a "pipe-dream" as they say here.

CBXracing outfit Isle of Man etc.jpg
Thanks Mike,

Here is another one from my archive. I believe it is the same outfit in Isle of Man with streamlining and on a UK short circuit which looks like Brands without.I think that is another CBX outfit behind it. Again, I know nothing about the owner although I am sure Alan will. I assume you have images of the Gordon Gooch F2 road going outfit built by Geoff Smale some years ago? Will see if I have anything else on file.

ps would be interested to see image of your outfit. I had both a Norvin & Rapide roadgoing outfit in the late 60's of which I have fond memories. Norvin was awsome with Black Shadow engine. Kept breaking the spokes in the rear wheel. Never took any pictures of my bikes in those days. Mores the pity.
