2015 Rally Suggestion.

Post by Ringnalda »

All, We have been discussing the possibilities for the 2015 rally in the NC region, to be precise at the Fontana Village Resort: PO Box 68 Highway 28 Fontana Dam, NC 28733

It is very close to some very good riding areas and we can get a group rate of $99 per room at the resort. The date proposed is the weekend of the 20th of June, with a earlybird check-in for Thursday the 18th. Before we jump through hoops to get this arranged, what is the consensus, any obvious conflicts, or is it a winner?

The location, rates, etc. is great. Unfortunately, the timing does not work for me. Something late May or early June would be good. However, whatever the time, it must, certainly, fit the majority. Hopefully, the June dates mentioned can work for most.

Jan, my schedule 'dilemma' is the annual Zimmer family FL event. I'm gone 18th thru 30th. Would prefer not the weekend before, either (13/14).

The location is excellent for me -- just about anytime works. Fontana also has plenty of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom cabins they will usually do a group rate for. If we could share cabins, it would be less expensive. Just a thought.

I think we're good with that date, or anything earlier. But whatever it is, we need to move on it and get it out there.

If someone is willing to go to the effort of putting on a rally, they should select a date which works for them. So go for it. unfortunately, we can't make it then.

I happened to be shopping at TIMS today and noted that this Suggestion is official: http://www.timscbx.com/

Is it time to make reservations?

Yes Harvey get the room booked!

The National Rally for the ICOA will be held June 18th-21st.

Location: Fontana Village Resort. A little upmarket but come on, you know you're worth it! http://www.fontanavillage.com/accommoda ... abins.html

This rally site is only a few miles from the Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway and other awesome breathtaking roads.

As it is already getting late, please help us get the word of this event out to as many CBX'ers that may be interested in attending. There will be rides, there will be a bike show, there will be awards, there will be good company, good times and I have it on good authority, good weather! In order to reserve a room please call 1-800-849-2258 and press option #1. Mention group name CBX2015 to secure the special rate we have negotiated --cutoff for this rate is April 9th so don't delay, book now to get these special rally rates. This should be a great rally nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. There are restaurants and other facilities for everything you could wish for, please visit:
http://www.fontanavillage.com/
to view all the amenities, facilities and directions to the village. I apologize for the delay in getting this information out, but after a brutal winter on the east coast I am sure we are all ready for some fun in the sun!!

Hope to see many of you there with your CBX's!

Directions: Fontana Village Resort is located in western North Carolina, 20 miles north of Robbinsville on Highway 28 North on the western end of Fontana Lake.

From Knoxville, Tennessee, take Hwy 129 south from Knoxville to Maryville, TN. Just past Maryville, Hwy129 turns left off of the four lane highway. Drive carefully. This section of this route is a beautiful, but curvy mountain road known as the "Dragon" by car & bike enthusiasts. One mile past past the TN/NC state line turn left on Hwy 28 at Deals Gap. Continue on Hwy 28 for 8.6 miles.

For GPS Users
For GPS users, the coordinates to the Lodge for check-in are 35.4364112, -83.822342 35.4364112 -83.822342 N35° 26.1847', W083° 49.3405' or plug in the following address: 300 Woods Road. Fontana Dam, North Carolina 28733

This is a great area for riding and that is not just to ride the Dragon. Rt 28 in and out of Fontana Village is a fun ride in either direction. This area is like Marlington, WV, in that pick a road, take off and you should have a fun ride. And you don't want to miss the Cherohala Skyway. This is a beautiful ride. There used to be a nice Café at the end of the road in Tellico Plains for lunch, and breakfast.

There is so much to see and do in the area, if you wife is coming the town of Highlands has a lot of specialty shops waiting for her(if shopping is her thing), Bridal Veil Falls, The Joyce Kilmer Forest with some of the largest Popular Trees on the east coast area. and of course the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the beginning/end of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee. Cherokee also has a casino for those interested.

This is a wonderful place for a rally. and Fontana Village(originally built for the workers building Fontana Dam) has plenty of area for tire kicking and chatting as well as tennis and basketball courts, horseshoes and other games to play on site.

Unfortunately the timing and scheduling is a real problem for me to attend, I will have to see how this works out and what the wife wants to do.
