Re: What did you do to your bike today?
Finally got off my '82X and put her up for the winter. Put 14,800 miles on her this past 6 months. Was a fantastic riding season with only very minor problems here and there.
Filled the tank with premium fuel and stabilizer, ran her dry with the petcock off and drained all the bowls for the 6 month storage. Plus took off the body work including the tank and fairing in preparation of maintenance over winter. Will be doing the usual.....valve clearances, cam chain adjustment, new plugs, brakes, front master needs rebuilt and perhaps new sprockets and chain. Although the sprockets and chain are still in pretty good shape, it has been 27k miles since I replaced them.
Next up...sharpen and wax the skis.

Close to 15k miles is outstanding, Patrick.
Hard to believe the weather we are having this Nov. compared to what you got a year ago.

I heard weather reports for 10c for the weekend but I don't think that's going to happen so I probably had my last ride of the year. So it's time put the beast to bed for the winter. And then the GS rebuild begins!

With 12 inches of snow on the ground, not much anything!

I changed the headlight bulb, and took the motorcycle to a Motor Vehicle Inspection, so I can get a license plate on it :)

2 hrs work to pull the cylinder head off my GS1150, cylinders and pistons look okay.
A little work required to remove two frozen/broken plugs that have been in the head for nearly 20 years.
But it looks promising, the big red train should be ready to ride by spring.
I'll have to alternate with the Z .

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
We've had a little bit of snow in Toronto so far, but it hasn't lasted, so last night I got out for a little ride just to get up to operating temp and charge the battery so that it'll have a higher probability of starting successfully when it's time to ride it to the shop.
I enjoyed that so much that this morning I woke up and decided to ride in to work in the cold & dark.

Yesterday evening : New oil, filters, plugs etc. Quick bike wash in the dark - we have water restrictions due to lack of rain so had to be quick.
This morning rode to our Friday morning coffee meet - looks like it was Honda day. Then someone arrived on a 1950's Triumph, then a BMW ........ and it all went to pot!

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
Every time I plan to put the Z away for the winter the weather warms up!
Took her out for some exercise today a little sluggish warming up, a few of coughs for the first few hundred meters but then she seemed to settle in nicely. It felt warm when I began the ride but once I got on the freeway at 110km per my thumbs went numb in about 5 minutes(cam cover makes a great hand warmer at traffic lights). Definitely the last ride for the year and latest I've ever ridden, if the winter stays as mild as it is now I may be back on the road in March.

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
I know that it's less remarkable to be riding in Toronto than in Calgary, but I'm also getting the little bit of seat time that I can. The bike goes into the shop this Thursday and I'm trying to run it every few days so that I can ride it to the shop - something about a bike on a tow truck depresses me. It's warm enough this week that I'm going to get to the end of the riding season this year without ever using my heated gear.

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
it's a wee bit too cold for my enjoyment but if the mild winter holds I'll fire the Z up for a ride in January and February then I'll have completed my quest to have ridden every month of the year at least once...I never considered November and December were even possible until this winter...Mouse wrote:December, Calgary Alberta, riding a CBX. !!!!!

and forum members in the southern states are thinking what's the big deal about ridding in winter months

I've been dropping subtle xmas hints to the boss and kids that warm winter riding gloves are on my list of things to buy...Syscrush wrote: It's warm enough this week that I'm going to get to the end of the riding season this year without ever using my heated gear.
