I loved California in many ways, but with luck I will be retiring very soon, and I can live a lot better here than I can there in many ways. Overall the cost of living is roughly a third higher there, and at the risk of hurting anybody's feelings, it's very much a rat race where we were. Many people really busting their ass just to squeak by and many people living at 100% of their means and there is a lot of other badness that we didn't like too: Homelessness is rampant, drug addiction, violent and petty crime. A general air of hostility, thinly veiled as 'cool'. Not our cup 'o tea.

This climate suits my wife a lot better too, and the big plus for me is I'm very nearby my brother (and close friend). So we bought a house and we're settling into it and looking forward to the future here. It's all good, thanks for asking.

P.S. No, I don't think there is any possibility we'll end up back east. The west is where we belong.

Good for you Nils! I also love the desert Southwest. Hope the move all goes well. I'll be sure to get your new address to ship your carbs back (hopefully pretty soon).

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I had visions of a much larger shop than I ended up with. But in the balance of all things we wanted, the house we bought was a great choice and we love it more every day.

Dave, you're far from holding me up, however my paint work just arrived from Blake Conway and tomorrow I will crack it open to drool on it. Can't wait to see it. So take your time.

350 days with sunshine and 11" of rain for the whole year.
Tuscon sounds like a great place to have a motorcycle.

Nils, I have always wanted more shop than I seem to get. Truthfully I want more than I could ever afford. The wife says the house would be all garage/shop if it were up to me and just a little living space. I don't argue with her.

Glad to know you are enjoying your new home.

Hey those big piles of rock on the horizon look like they may have some riding trails. When's the dirt bike / mountain bike / BBQ weekend?

Arizona is a fantastic state. I spent 7 years riding all over the northern half of the state from I10 and up. I hope you get to ride from Flagstaff to Sedona on 89A. Oak Creek Canyon is beautiful and the switchbacks on 89A are a blast to ride. Plus the RedRocks in Sedona are so amazing.

Good luck on settling in.

I haven't been to AZ in ages - something about the cops and my riding style some thirty years ago.

I spent a LOT of time in Tucson back then. Ever dealt with an independent bike shop there called Bud's Out Back? Very good people back then - I think they're still around.
