Cook Neilson, CBX and coincidences at Barber
When I was at the 2013 Barber Vintage Festival last weekend, while cruising the swap meet, I found a copy of the Feb 1978 issue of Cycle magazine featuring the new Honda CBX on the cover. I bought the issue and headed over to look at the bikes in the auction tent. They had a 1979 CBX in there and, while I was looking over the CBX, Cook Neilson walked up, He was the editor of Cycle in 1978 and he is the one who wrote the piece and is pictured in the article. Cook was gracious enough to autograph the article for me and tell some great tales about the CBX test and writeup. How lucky was that?

Yes, indeed. The coincidence of a lifetime! It was a real pleasure to witness your stroke of luck. And a real treat to hear Cook describe testing the CBX.

Very cool, Corey.
Another one of those "you meet the nicest people on a Honda" stories.

Did he mention if he is in the motorcycle industry these days? Just curious.

He is a photographer now, when he feels like it. He's 70 years old and somewhat retired. He really hasn't done much officially in the motorcycle arena since he moved to Vermont many years ago. That's what I gleaned from talking to him and doing a bit of research afterward.

In the pictures above with Cook Neilson, the chap in the black t-shirt with the be-goggled queen on it is not the bike's owner but is, in fact, my buddy Fred Johnson from Ft. Myers Florida. He WISHES he were the bike's owner...
Best,
