At the moment I am 61 but I used to be much younger years ago! I bought my first bike in Holland in 1968,you had to be 18 before you could ride a motorcycle. It was a DKW 200RT,before that I had a Honda 49cc moped. When I lived in the UK i rode a Ducati 450(not desmo) I brought this with me when the Dutch animal feed companie I worked for send me to Americain 1985.In the USA I quickly got infected with MAS (Motocycle Acquusition Syndrome) and bought a Honda 350F,Susuki Titan/Cobra,Kawasaki H2,Honda CB1100R,85 and 86 VF1000R,RC 30.,79 CBX (3) 80 CBX (2) and later on a RC51 Nicky Haydn edition. Most of the time I had 8 bikes on the road ,taxed and insured. It was so much cheaper to buy a bike and run than it was in Europe. When we moved in 2004 to Western NC I sold most of the bikes and now just have a 79 and 80 CBX and a recently bought CB1000 whioch I really like.My wife does not ride but gives me all the "freedom " I need for my bike riding, she just tells me
"be safe".My other also money costing hobbie is collecting toy tractors ;Ferguson and Massey Ferguson.Without hobbies I do not think that it is worth getting up early in the morning and working hard.I
owned a farm for many years and having 12 people working for me gave me enough headaches and therefor do I love my semi retirement, just work part time in ahospital in Asheville,my wife of 37 years of marriage is an RN in the same hospital and live is good to us.

Hi guys,

I am just 68 and have owned 26 cbx's over the last twenty five years including five Moto-Martins.The most cbx's I have had in the garage at one time is six. Never owned an 81 or 82 only 79's,cbx specials or Moto-Martin's. Just sold a 5000 miler 79 to a close friend and now just have my 79 that has been featured in many books and magazines. Have won over thirty awards with her so would be very sorry to see her go.
Also, have a GL1500 Interstate. Have five children spread around the world and one step daughter so never a dull moment. Plus seven grandchildren.

I think MEL has us smoked ! not with age, but experience ! how many CBXs are enough ! i am still trying to acquire ONE !
Bless you MEL ! Didn't you learn to start counting backwards after 50 ? i'm actually 39 ! (as long as we are playing games with
number plates) ! :D

does anyone remember a song "MY BACK PAGES" by THE BYRDS ? "I was so much older then, i'm younger than that now" !

OK, I bought my first CBX new, it was a leftover '81 on the showroom floor. I purchased it in the fall of 1983 with 2.5 no miles on the clock. I found the second '81 in a local swap sheet around 1988.

I was considering getting out of bikes in 2000. I've ridden on something with two wheels since 1962. Usually I always had sport touring or cruising machines, as in several Gold Wings including one with a Vetter side car and another towing a Time Out camping trailer. I thought I done it all and after a divorce and the bikes being neglected cause we ( she and I could always use the bikes) but it was always a terrible ordeal when I wanted spend the evening maintaining them. Sooooooooooooo, after "D" day, my bikes where not very nice and I was thinking of moving on. Thennnnnnnnnnn, I discovered crotch rockets. Bought a new red Yamaha R1 in 2000, in 2009 I bought another 2007 R1 and later sold the red one, after having two sport bikes for a while I liked them so much I stumbled on to Ducati's.

Two years ago I purchased a rather worn 2000 748, two weeks ago I purchased another 1998 748. This is like love at first site with sport bikes that have none of the complications of marriage. At present 2 Gold Wings a '75 & '84, 2 '81 CBX's, 1 '07 Yamaha R1 and 2 Ducati 748's a 1998 & 2000.

I've been reborn as a rocket rider and I wish I'd done it 59 years ago. I'm an AMA life member and as of June of last year was 64 years old.

Later, George in Delaware
I'm into motorcycles, wooden boats, airplanes, wood working and car restoration.

Welcome to the forum,, I was in Rio several times in the late 60's. Did they ever finish the subway under the beach front?

That are must be a fantastic place to ride a motorcycle, especially a special machine such as a CBX.
