I don't know if dB Customs is on anyone else's radar, but I have been watching Darren's work since he started sharing on FB and have been consistently impressed.

His latest is this high-spec '79.

This isn't the build I'd want for myself - nor the budget I get to work with - but there are a lot of nice touches on this machine, and I really appreciate the attention to detail. They got the weight down to a claimed 465 lbs wet - remarkable IMO for a bike that still retains so much of the stock bike's styling character.

They're readily available: just modern 17" carbon wheels from Dymag - about the same as BST carbon or good forged wheels - about $3k USD.

Darren Begg is a hacker, as far as I am concerned. He should stick with his photography job. He is to classic Japanese bikes what Arlen Ness is to Harleys..cookie cutter customs with a lot of bolt-on show components. If you have seen one of his bikes, you have seen them all. He has a following. Just like Arlen Ness. And he laughs all the way to the bank...

I think it looks great and would love to ride it and own it.
Going to take a lottery win for that to happen.

it's all subjective, it's all good, keeping cbx's on the road is all that matters.

I would imagine the bike has at least 15-20k in it

I would imagine it's at least double that.

What interests me Phil is the marriage of the Dyna S coils with the Ignitech ignition. I'm assuming its a TCIP4 unit and I wonder if his mods included upgraded diodes to deal with the feedback from the higher voltage coils.

Looks like he retained the alternator too.

In my experience, he's responsive on FB - if you have specific questions like that I expect he'd answer them.
