How do you install '81 wheels on a '79 CBX?
What does it take to use rims from an '81 CBX on a '79 CBX?
Can it be done with stock triple tree/forks/handlebars?
Stock brakes/calipers?
On the rear end, what's needed?
Stock brake can caliper?
If there's more than one way..... ?
Thanks,

They'll bolt right up as-is.

Yup, one of the easiest upgrade one can do on the early models ! no longer original but the black rims look
real good especially on the candy red X ! you can also mount a bigger tire.

Just curious, Craig.
Why not bring the better rotors and calipers along with the wheel?

I might be wrong but I don't think the 81 calipers will fit the 79 fork tube.

Here you go - Craig wanted to fit original early model stuff to late model wheels and it's a bolt-on. If you want late brakes to go with them, then you need late rotors and calipers/hangers. Other combos have been well-chronicled here.

Re: How do you install '81 wheels on a '79 CBX?
I just picked up a set of 81 wheels, no other parts. I thought I would put them on my '79 black daily rider as it's not stock already. It has a lot of 80 stuff on it starting with the color, tail with locking compartment, etc.
Another quick question. 79's have 43mm calipers on the front and a single 38mm caliper on the rear. can the 43mm be placed on the rear as well with all the stock 79 parts, just changing the caliper?
Thanks,

Not sure which side from the front MIGHT fit, but you'll have a brake hose issue I think. Never did it, and don't know why you'd want to.

I have 4 or 5 front calipers, and only a couple of rear calipers. Just trying to find a use for some of the front calipers.

Re: How do you install '81 wheels on a '79 CBX?
Again, Craig is talking about bolting ALL the stock '79-'80 brake stuff onto late model wheels. It works fine. Other issue you'll have fitting a front caliper to the rear is the little plastic splash shield attachment. There is obviously none on the front caliper.
