How do you install '81 wheels on a '79 CBX?

I got the 81 wheels today, they are in pretty good shape. Size = front 2.50 x 19, rear 2.75 x 18.
My intention is to install them on one of my '79 CBX's with all '79 running gear (discs, calipers, etc)

My question:

What is the largest size tire that can be used with the above configuration, without interfering with the '79 swing arm, center stand, pipes, etc.?
I'm thinking of using Shinko 230's

Thanks in advance.

130/90-18 is the largest that will squeeze into the '79 swingarm without mods. The 2.75 rear wheel shouldn't be used with any larger tire inyway.

Dave,

That's about the same size I have on my other CBX's (130/80-18), Bridgestones not Shinkos

I was hoping to put on a 140/80-18 which on the Bridgestone website, says it will fit the 2.75 rim. Tire is 18mm larger in diameter and 13mm wide at the tread than the 130/80-18.

Sizes came from the Bridgestone website:

http://www.bridgestone.com/products/mot ... index.html

I'm gonna have to measure the clearance with the 130/80-18 to see if enough exists to mount the 140/80-18.

Know if any one has tried this?

You MIGHT have to massage the tire side of the brake stay if you go with the 140.

It will definitely hit the brake stay. I have made a new stay in the past and put a bend in it where the tire hits it. If I remember correctly I also had to grind a little on swingarm. If I did over I would find a different swingarm. I did mine in the early 80's. No internet and availability of different arms weren't out there.

That's one item I didn't think about. I will do some measuring today to see what the existing clearance is.

Thanks!
