1981 CBX starter clutch R+R
What is involved in the removal and replacement of the Starter clutch on a 1981 CBX? I fear it is much more involved than with my other Hondas (v65 magna, cb 900SS etc) where I just pulled the side cover to retorque the clutch fasteners... Need the input to determine if I should keep or sell.

The engine has to come out and the cases split. Rather a big job if you've not done it before. If you use synthetic oil, I'd switch to regular oil and see if the slipping starter clutch improves.

Dave, That is very good advice for sure and I have seen it work as soon as they went back to good old fashion oil.daves79x wrote:The engine has to come out and the cases split. bsa, can you describe the symptoms that you are attributing to the starter clutch.
Is it not engaging, clunking, slipping?
