Hi,
My 1979z air box has not been right since I bought it, as you can see from the pictures, these are air box and clips etc.
How does this lot hold the air filter in place ??? I cant get the filter to stay in place, is there something missing.
any help or pictures on how it goes together would be appricated.

Re: 1979 air box help
The metal spring band in the first picture secures the air filter inside the housing. But I do not see the airbox COVER anywhere. This is screwed down to the housing with the two screws that are visible and additionally secured by the clip. This clip, btw, is not there on the "Z" model. Did you buy another airbox from a later model?

Re: 1979 air box help
To expand on what EMS said, put the filter in place, then slide the curved flat spring down behind it. See the two raised ribs on the metal portion of the filter? The spring slides vertically between them.

Re: 1979 air box help
Neil,
At the front of the airbox, there is a foam gasket where the air filter element meets the air box. The gasket is slightly deformed and should be lovingly tweaked back into it's original shape. It will be around longer and seal better.-Mike

Re: 1979 air box help
He is referring to the gasket that is shown in your picture. It seems slightly warped.
