Helmet Brake/Signal Lights

Post by Sharpie66 »

Happy New Year to all!

I have recently been exploring the idea of wireless brake/turn signal lights for motorcycle helmets. I really like the idea of additional lighting and the use of a third brake/signal light such as what cars are using can only be helpful in my desire to improve my riding safety.

Here is a link to what I am considering...

http://www.amazon.com/Whistler-Motoglo- ... B00I902DUI

I currently use an Arai full faced helmet with a Sena20s bluetooth, which I really like. The perfect motorcycle helmet, for me at least, would have the bluetooth and wireless lighting system fully integrated all ready.

So, does anyone have any experience with this or know of anyone who does or perhaps has seen them in action? I also wonder if I should have any concerns with hardwiring this product into the CBX electrical system.

Thanks for any input and I will report back if and when I jump on this.

I didn't know these things existed.
Patrick, seems like this one would be brighter, especially in the daytime.
The reviews are certainly positive.

Huh, who knew?
I can see having a bright brake light on the back of my helmet being a great thing.
Having it hard wired to the bike would worry me though. Would need a fool proof disconnect.

I think it is a great idea.
An obviously doctored video to make it look even better but it does show the light in action.

That one is definately a very bright option. However does not link up with brake/running/turn signal operation. It looks to me that it is simply a 5050 waterproof led strip wired to a lipo battery. Most likely this product...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-SMD-5050-RGB ... 8w9YYo_svQ

I have a fair amount of experience using/wiring these strips into various backlighting applications in my line of carpentry. A fantastic product and quite bright, but I'm mostly interested in the RF transmitter/reciever that the Motoglo has. I can always add additional strip lighting if I want.

The other choice I am considering is this one by Highkick...

http://www.amazon.com/High-Kick-Digital ... N688XNMJNQ

I will probably choose the Motoglo by Whistler as that product has a higher rated Lipo, 1100mah, compared to the Highkick which is only rated at 250mah.

Glad to share some new tech available to the motorcycle rider. Particularily related to rider safety. I will report back with a product review when I make my purchase and complete the install.

My first attempt at embedding video...

A dry run off a 12v battery.

MOD EDIT: That youtube tool is a pain in the neck. For it to work it can't be encrypted (https) and it can't be the 'mobile' version of their sharing links (m.youtube....). To fix this particular link all that's needed is to edit the link replacing the m.youtube... with http://www.youtube... I wish it worked better, but that's what we're stuck with.
