Hello Gents,
Embarrassing 1st posting for advice;
I’m in the process of re-commissioning a cbx1000 (1980)

Whilst I have completed most of the heavy work (apart from the carbs) I have purchased
a rear master cyl repair kit and cant believe I have been defeated by one of the
smallest parts of the bike.

There is a chamfered rubber seal that should fit onto the piston bolt/rod.......
Is there a secrete, trick or handy tip to fitting this seal over the head without
stretching or damaging it.

No secret trick... Lube with brake fluid and stretch it on. I have done several and I have not screwed any up. I know what you mean thinking it will screw it up but they have always worked for me. Make sure you have it facing the right direction though. Good luck....

Not to help your immediate 'problem'. However, for all others who do a rebuild in the future --- buy your parts from TIMS. This seal comes pre-assembled in his kit.

Is that the reason for the piston having a screw-type body? So that you can "screw" the seal into place?

Only one version of the piston looks like a 'screw'. Others are straight. There are different part numbers for the early and late rear master cylinders, as well as the front. Some come with the rubber already installed and some don't. It's really no big deal to slip it on, but as someone said, orientation is critical.

I have never worked on the rear mc of my Prolink before, and the piston looks like a screw. I thought this was original Honda. Unless the PO changed it.
