tachometer

Post by kinderone1 »

just bought a '82 cbx, rode it for about 120 miles and everything seemed fine except that it seems to idle too low (wants to stall when warm), but the next day the tach quite working! It still spins from the motor, any advice?

K1, Most likely the stalling problem is that one of the slow circuit (idle circuit) passages in the carbs is blocked, time to clean the carbs.

The tach, if the cam is turning the worm gear for the tach drive then you know its ok, next check the cable, unscrew it from the tach and if its turning while the bikes running and if its ok, then its the tach thats broke.

Ok, checked the cable and it is not spinning at the tach end...does this mean that I need to replace the cable?

Yes it sounds like your cable is busted. Think yourself lucky it isn`t the tach itself or the drive busted up on the cam. Bigggggggg Dollars. :(

A cable is relatively cheap. :D
