Chain Replacing

Post by Larry Zimmer »

When replacing a drive chain, one of the tougher things to do is get the side plate onto the pins. Either rivet or clip style. One method is $25 for a tool. Another is the method I have found: Use a C-clamp with a couple spacers over the pins aginst the outside plate. For spacers, I use a couple 9/16 nuts intended for 1/4inch (or 3/8inch) bolts. Just be sure they are both the same thickness It takes a little fumbling to get everything aligned as you try to get started. Also, be certain the clamp is large enough to cover both nuts and the rivet heads on the back side. Email me, I'll send a couple photos of my effort. (email: cbxlarry@sbcglobal.net) Good luck. Using a clip type link, my installation was a breeze. (P.S. Don't forget to put the orings onto both sides before you get things pressed together! It's a bitch otherwise to undo things.)
