82 petcock

Post by whatscooking »

I have been going over post to figure the correct parts or valve for my 82. This bike now has a valve with one nipple a hose goes to a T then to the carbs. Really all I need is the strainer and the small O ring, stand pipe looks good. What I can tell 16950-MK6-770 is the correct Honda Valve. Are the aftermarket valves worth buying? When I look at them on Ebay it will say for a 82 but when you read the fine print they leave out the 82, are they different?

The '82 petcock is different from the '79-'82.
Don't know what to do about the strainer but this Suzuki o-ring part # 44376-31050 will work in the petcock.
This information comes from Mike Nixon so you can be assured that it is good.

Once again, I am a little confused. You are talking about a hose that goes to a T and then to the carbs. Are you talking about the petcock on the tank or the vacuum valve on the carbs?
The part-number you have listed is for the on-tank petcock for a GB500. That is the correct petcock which also fits the 82 CBX. I know that for a fact, because I have a GB500 also. It is the same part.

Sorry for the confusion which I am good at. Looking to repair the damaged in tank screen and I need the little O ring. I have discovered that in tank screen is not going to be found so therefore I need a complete valve. 16950 MK6 770 or 16950 MA2 771 are the numbers I have come up with. Unless there is a different screen I could use to fit into the tank this is what I have to work with.

The small O-ring by itself is p/n 16080-461-751, which is a carry-over parts from the Honda CB900C (Custom)

Will the 469 strainer kit screen fit into the tank and into the petcock and seal on my 82? And if so what is the complete part number for this strainer kit? I was moving stuff around in the shop today and in a box of leftover parts I have for a 85 700 Honda Sabre there was a trashed screen but it looked like it would fit and seal correct just a little short, are these screens common somewhat?

The 469 (1980 and 1981) strainer kit is different from the 1982 kit. The 469 strainer kit p/n is 16959-469-005. What exactly the difference is, I don't know. I seem to remember that there was a thread size difference, which means, the O-ring and maybe the diameter on the lower rim of the strainer could be different.

If all else fails when I order this kit and it doesn't match up for my 82, I know I will need the o ring noted above, will it fit a 79 setup? I am not worried about how it will change the reserve only that fits the holes and I can get a good seal there. I have four of these devils I like to keep running, two 79s and two 82s, and as important clean fuel is I want to maintain this problem area.

Spend a bit more and get the whole petcock from Honda. It comes with all the parts you seek.
