Welcome to the ICOA forum, Larry!

What year CBX are you talking about? Be prepared that restoring wheels is a painful job. Contrary to what some people may say, it is not recommended to disassemble the Comstar wheels (rims from spokes and hubs).
The most elaborate thing you can do is powdercoat. This requires quite some prep work, however.

EMS is right. Restoring these wheels is a pain. I'm assuming you are talking about the silver '79 Comstars? Powder coating to a close original finish is the way to go. The black ones are not nearly as much work.

Welcome Larry.

If you need a decent set of original 1979's, I have some that are VERY reasonable.
They are not dinged or damaged, but could use some cleanup.
Plus, I see you are in GG. I work in GG. I will deliver them to you.

Thanks for the advice. I have a 1980 CBX with black rims. Not opposed to powder coating, any special tips? Also willing to consider buying clean used wheels. Call my mobile at 323-855-7217.

The black rims can be bead/soda blasted and painted. Just need to mask the rim and then zip off the edges with a Dremmel. Better option would be to find a set of school bike '81-'82 wheels. Same look, but both are wider. Still a good supply of those out there.

Dave,

Maybe a dumb question but what are school bike wheels?

Honda donated a lot of bikes to trade or high schools for mechanical classes. These were supposed to be gathered up and destroyed when the scholl was done with them. Most fell into private hands, were somehow titled, or parted out. Many were pristine, some beat up pretty badly. Most of the CBX school bikes were the 1981 or "B" model.

Rick,

Thanks for the clarification. So I should look for wheels for an 81-82 CBX? How much wider are they? Any clearance issues to be aware of?

Larry:

Pro-Link wheels will bolt right on. 2.50 front and 2.75 rear. Far more common than replacement '80 wheels.
