They still make 'em because a lot of guys with vintage Brit bikes like the look of them on their bikes. But these guys don't push their bikes very hard.
They are hardly comparable to more modern rubber.
And I was not at all saying that the Harley 501's are any different than other 501's - the Dunlop and Bridgestone OEM junk that I was talking about had different, funny numbers that most of us never heard of...

I just replaced the Pirelli Phantoms +1 on my '78 GS1000 that has been sitting quietly for years. I really liked those old shoes.

Those Pirelli Phantoms were great tires.
What did you replace them with? Inquiring minds want to know...

Avon AM26 Road Riders replaced the rock hard Pirellis.
I have not had a chance to try them yet.

I,m trying one of those on the rear of the 79. Like it just fine so far. I do run Pirelli Sport Demons on the front though. Like them a lot too.
