Brake Pedal / Footrests - Original Finish

Post by jnnngs »

Hi,

What was the original finish on items such as the Brake Pedal and footrests?

These items are aluminium with a silver finish. It looks more like some form of plating rather than a paint:

I have tried painting them, but the finish looks different. Is the original finish paint or something else?

Maybe a question for Nils - would vapour blasting restore them to original finish?

thanks,

Paul.

Just a guess but i thought it was raw aluminum with a clear coat.

Yes, vapor blast would work really well on those parts. Clearcoat not strictly needed as it seals the pores pretty nicely. You would probably want to polish them a little to get them as flat and shiny as they were stock.

OK - thanks, I will vapour blast them and see what that looks like.

The standard finish is very "silver" as compared to other raw aluminium / coated parts (such as clutch cover and carb tops), but we'll see.
