Side Panels - What Plastic?

Post by Paddy_SP »

I need to plastic weld a crack in one of my '79 CBX1000Z side panels, but before I do so, I need to identify the type of plastic it's made from. Later Honda parts have codes such as 'PP' (signifying polypropylene) alongside the manufacturing date codes, but I can't find any such info on them.

I've got PP and ABS welding rods here, but I doubt the panels are made of the former as they are too stiff - I have no idea if they're composed of the latter or something else though.

I would therefore be most grateful if anyone who knows the answer would be kind enough to let me know - as ever, any help would be most appreciated! :)

Many thanks - I did consider buying a pair of their panels, but felt that using genuine ones would be better, even if it took a bit of work!

I had side covers and tailpiece from LPM on an '80 and was very impressed with the fit.
They were also a bit sturdier and once painted looked the same as stock.
I do agree original is better.
