Zinc Plating - Original colour / finish

Post by jnnngs »

Hi,

I am getting the various fasteners etc. on my '79 Z model re-plated. I want to get them back to the correct original finish / "colour", so is there any info on what the original finish was?

Most of the fasteners are silver / yellow finish. However, there are others that look "black" - such as some of the dome headed bolts / nuts, or the allen key headed bolts . This could be tarnishing, but were these originally black, or "olive drab" or some other colour?

Also, what finish are the carb insulator retaining bands? Were they black originally?

thanks,

Paul.

Paul: Most of the fasteners were 'bright zinc'. Your plater will know what that is. Bolts around the handlebar, top triple clamp area and the carb bands were a dark olive color, but it is very hard to match. Same with the '79 front and rear caliper holder bolts. The yellow zinc - never had that done.
