My Project

I started a CBX project, this one is a 79 and I acquired it from a friend that had bought it at an auction about fifteen years ago with several other bikes in pieces. I have been working at a HONDA-KAWASAKI shop since 1973 and have been the GM for the last twenty-five years. I am very fond of the CBX and bought one when they first came out, and have restored several over the years. This one is definitely going to be a challenge. Wonderful web site, I feel vary fortunate to have found it.

A warm welcome to you John.

I don't think there is anything this gang likes any more than participating in the restoration or resurrection of a CBX.

Please let us help, post pictures, tell us what parts you need, what problems you're having, and also share what you learn along the way. These projects are a very valuable part of the knowledge base. I definitely suggest you start a project thread and we'll track it there, but certainly do it however you like if you do.

Best,

N.

Hi ya, John.
Any idea yet as to whether you will be restoring to stock or something custom?
Lots of CBX guys in Texas.

By the looks of those pics you have a long road ahead of you, good thing is most members here have been in your shoes and started with something similar one time or another.

Welcome.

Welcome Jetkawa,
Lay all your bits out and take pix so we can see where you are. fer instance, i don't see front brake caliper assemblies; bar controls, cables, valve cover fasteners, tach drive, tank cap, emblems, rear brake pedal. Several vets here can spot stuff like that just from your pix. Lots of bits lying around for a deal you won't refuse, and the sources for what you may need to purchase.

If you haven't already, you may want to register for ICOA membership at:

You may find CBX carbs intimidating. They WILL stand between you and the open road. Here's a great reference for rebuilding CBX CARBS:

Welcome John!

I wish that bike was in my garage. Feed the beast and keep the pictures coming!

The engine had been stored in an airplane hanger for about ten years without the valve cover, not a pretty sight. Rust on the cam lobes, missing some valve shims and spark plugs stuck in the head. I have another set of cams that are in great shape and I am not going to use this cylinder head. (Has fin damage) Fortunately the engine turned over and there is no rust in the cylinders. I am probably going to use the other set of engine cases I have. The Carburetors look great, on the outside, (dare I look inside?) don’t worry I am not going to use Gunk Carb. Cleaner on them. I came across this throttle cable last night; I believe it is for the CBX with the European kit. Just pay the freight and it is yours.
