Engine and Frame se(r)ial mumbers.

Hey guys and girls.

Can anyone help me determine if my engine frame numbers match.

And what production order does the bike fall into for 1981.

CBX NO. 1
The frame # JH2 SC 0607BC300697

The engine #

The miles on the odometer, 18397 miles.

CBX NO. 2
The frame # JH2 SC 060XBC300287

The engine # SC03E - 2300350

The miles on the odometer, 17341 miles.

Both Bikes are 1981 Honda CBX's.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks for your help.

A tough one George but there are savants on this site that may be able to advise... Alas, I'm not one of them.... :?

Over here we can get the vehicle history from the registration number, not sure if that's possible in the States though...

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly, but the numbers describe a percetly fine 1981 CBX.
the .....BC30.. in the VIN number confirms it is a 1981 CBX.
The ..0287.. is the serial number and indicates it is an early unit. It is actually one of the lowest ones I have in my records. I have only two that are lower ...0065 and ..0269
With this goes the engine serial number of ...350, making it very, very likely that this is the original frame/engine combo.
The low frame number would mean the bike was built sometime around August of 1980, maybe. But that is a wild guess.

Interesting subject. At least for me, that is. For some 8 years now, I have dilligently taken record of any CBX VIN and engine number I could.

I have a list of about 300 bikes.

1979: lowest VIN CB1-20 00045 was for sale here in Ohio
highest VIN CB1-20 23865 is in Germany

1980 Japan lowest VIN SC03-20 00040 was probably sold to Australia
highest VIN SC03-20 01387 is in Canada

1980 US lowest VIN SC03-20 10015 owned by a member in Kansas
highest VIN SC03-20 12721 engine SC03E-20 03611

1981 lowest VIN JH2SC0605BC300065
highest VIN JH2SC0609BC305672

1982 lowest VIN JH2SC0603CC4000006 supposedly ex Malcolm Forbes
highest VIN JH2SC0607CC4002775 Canada

Anybody anything else to add?

It may be a total coincidence but I don't have a single 1979 with a serial number in the 3000s

That is very interesting! The VIN number of my 79 is very close to yours and I bought mine in November 78 in Germany. It had been sitting at the dealer since late August/early September

:D :D Sorry, John! Somewhere between writing States in short form, the KS morphed into KY and when it was spelled out again, the error remained. I corrected it! How is your RC coming along? Need any parts?
I have some stuff left over from my RD.

Knowing the kind of products you buy, I would love to buy all your excess CB1100R parts inventory. I tried to use alimey4u2's name and address with my shipping address at David Silver Spares and CMS to purchase some stuff and neither of them would do that :cry: :cry: . What's wrong with them :roll: :roll: ??

Wow :shock: :shock: , John, that is coming along real nicely! Will look quite impressive, it seems, when it is all done! Let me take some inventory and shoot it to you. I think the plastic parts are of little use to you as the fairing was slightly different on the RD and will not fit the RC, but I have some other stuff, like a tank and the elusive gold alternator and ignition covers. And those are even original RC, I believe. And I may have a set of brake rotors.

Hey EMS, thanks for the spell check.

I never was the best typist and my keyboard skills on the cornputer are less than perfect.

I'll gather up the remaining frame and engine numbers on the other 81 CBX and post them on the site.

So, to carry this thread a little further. A CBX who's VIN number starts with a "J" was built and/or assembled in Japan?
