Hi folks,
just changed the oil on my cbx for the 1st time.drained the oil replaced the filter etc. i put in 4 litres of new oil (exactly) and ran the engine for a couple of minutes. Stopped the motor and checked the level and it was too high ?? Engine has 1147cc Wiseco conversion and earls oil cooler but otherwise mechanically stock. Any ideas ?

The workshop manual quotes 4 litres "approximately". Did you allow the engine to drain completely, IE hot with the bike level on the center stand ?

Shouldn't make that much difference, but you should always leave the bike on the sidestand for a little while to help drain the oil in the head. Maybe the Earl's oil cooler didn't drain properly. It is always good to get an idea of how much oil comes out, before you put fresh oil in.

thanks for the assistance...the bike was left for a good 15 minutes during draining both on the centrestand and the sidestand. The oil had stopped coming out and was just an occasional drip. Oil stuck in the cooler is a thought though (it is a big cooler) and the oil pipes feed into the top. I reckon thats the reason....thanks for that !..........next time i will turn the cooler upside down during draining

Just to be certain, oil measurement is done with the dipstick/plug just touching the threads & not screwed in with the bike on the centerstand ....

At some point in time the oil cooler volume is satisfied, by draining the oil cooler all you achieve is the removal of that contaminated oil... After draining you will be low on 4 liters...
