Has anyone ever tried AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle oil? It so, how do you like it and would you recommend it to be used in a CBX? Does it bother the clutch at all? Does it cause gasgets to leak?http://www.amsoil.com/products/amv.htm

I have used Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle oil for several years with no problems in several bikes - 1999 Gold Wing, 2002 ST1100, and 1986 V65 Magna. I've just bought my first CBX, and will use Amsoil in that when I change the bike's oil. Never had a leak, etc. from the oil.

Seems to me that synthetic is especially important with the CBX being air cooled vs. most bike today being water cooled.

Was just about to order another case of 10-40 and got a new catalog in the mail. Turns out that its gone up $2.10 per quart! Instead of $70.20 for a case its now $95.40 a case! I may have to look elsewhere for a synth oil. Any suggestions?

Terry,

Are you a Amsoil preferred customer? If you are, then the price for the new formulation 10w40 motorcycle oil (MCF-QT) would be $6.05 per qt. If you're not, maybe you should consider spending the $20 to become one. For me it was worth it, but then again I use their products in my car, motorcycle, wife's car, and three kids cars.

Good luck,

Steve

Well, on their website the price had just barely gone up so I ordered a case at $72+ instead of $95+ like their catalog stated. Whew... Until I rebuild the 79, the 82 is all I run Amsoil in, so paying another $20 a year for 'preferred' customer service wouldn't pay off for me.

I have run Amsoil synthetic , for 10 years, in both of my 1979 CBX s. specificaly, 20-50 racing oil. absolutly no problems with clutches, or mechanical. seems to run cooler as well. only one caution in my mind. is that , to break in a re build, i would run a couple of hundred miles, on reg oil. see www.amsoil.com for info. my bikes deserve the best. #2662

I used 20/50 Amsoil for several years and developed a problem with my starter no wanting to engage. Switched to Syntec blend and the problem went away? Go figure KPS

The starter clutch is affected somewhat in my 82 by synth Amsoil but only if its VERY cold or if I haven't started it in a few weeks (it does have over 80K on it). Otherwise, I LOVE Amsoil and when the 79 is rebuilt I'll switch. I've also used it in my Hayabusa since breakin and have had no problems at all. Great stuff! Now, if HondaInc. hadn't made the CBX with THREE clutches...but that's another story!
